Violated

My car was ravaged the night before last. Upon leaving my house for work yesterday, I was surprised to see the hood of my car was not fully closed. I thought, "That's weird, I would think I would have noticed I was driving with my hood opened." So I quickly went to the door to open up and make sure things were okay. I noticed they weren't. The locks were all unlocked, which was odd because I never leave the car unlocked. Realizing something was amiss, I completely missed the biggest problem of all (which I'll get to in a moment) searching for how the doors were unlocked. I then noticed that the rear passenger vent window was broken. I am sure I muttered some expletives when I looked at the scene and it all came together. I realized that the glove compartment was completely open, its contents strewn about the floor. Then I saw the gaping hole where the passenger airbag normally would be found. "What the?" I thought. Then I looked at the steering wheel and saw this:

Yes, they took the driver-side airbag too. This is how I felt (anger could not explain what emotions were running through my psyche, but Mrs. White here does a good job):

As I tried to turn on the car, nothing happened. I briefly thought "oh crap, this could be bad." Then I checked the battery cable, which they had removed very quickly as to quiet any noise that the car's alarm would have made, which explains why I didn't hear anything--they must have been real speedy with that.
It turns out that airbag theft is a growing trend. Thieves will steal the airbags and sell them to shady auto-body shops for a couple hundred bucks. Then, the auto-body shop can charge over $1000 to install them in your car after an accident in which your airbags deployed. In fact, as I was speaking to the police officer on the phone, I was informed that she had just finished a call with a guy whose airbags were stolen from his car.
It just pisses me off that people would do that. The funny thing though, is that they didn't steal anything else. Not that I had much else in there to steal, but my watch was left there, they didn't even try with the cd player, and to their credit, they did a good job at not damaging anything other than the window they broke. I haven't seen a scratch or broken piece of plastic where they did their work, so that's nice.

Here's a pic of the passenger side:So, my resolve from here on out will be that no matter how innocent the behavior, I will call the Fairfax County Police to report any activity that seems out of the ordinary on the grounds of the Fairfield Crossing apartment complex. I don't care if it's a family breaking a Pinata for their daughter's fifth birthday, or a man checking the air pressure in his tires. If it's not something that could be found in a scene from the Andy Griffith show, the cops are getting a call. Hopefully it will never happen again.
So, that was my fun activity for yesterday, what did you do?
